Kagami Crystal Co., Ltd. established by Kozo Kagami, opened Japan’s first crystal glass factory in 1934. Since its foundation over seventy years ago, the company has developed advanced glass-making skills and techniques, including hand glassblowing, manual cutting and engraving, to fashion its range of original and high-quality glass products. Our highly skilled craftsmen combine technical skills and artistic passion to produce the finest and most detailed works of crystal glass art.

The company’s founder, Kozo Kagami, went to Germany to study in 1927. On his return to Japan, he set out to introduce Japanese customers to the transparent beauty and intricate engraving work of crystal glass. He committed himself to perfecting the techniques and skills he had acquired in Germany, designed to bring out the full potential of crystal and succeeded in transforming it into a true art form. His progress was recognized by numerous awards and accolades, beginning with a special award at the Chicago International Expo; “A Century of Progress”, in 1934. This was followed by awards at the Paris World Expo in 1937, the New York World Expo in 1939, and the Grand Prize conferred at the Brussels World Expo in 1958 to name a few. Kozo Kagami’s life, the company’s progress to the present day and the development of high-quality Japanese crystal glass are closely intertwined.

In 1943, the company was honored by its appointment as a supplier of furnishings to mark the marriage of H.I.H. Princess Shigeko, the eldest daughter of H.M. Emperor Hirohito. Since then, Kagami Crystal has received special commissions from the Imperial family on many occasions. In 1968, we supplied glassware for the new palace on the orders of the Imperial Household Agency. In 1974, we received a commission to provide glassware for use on official occasions at the State Guesthouse and its Japanese annex building. Reflecting our reputation as Japan’s leading supplier of superior glassware, our products are widely used at official receptions to entertain state guests and foreign dignitaries.

Today, Japanese embassies and consulates in more than 250 countries around the world use Kagami Crystal glassware, and the company takes pride in its reputation for producing “the best quality crystal in Japan.” Demonstrating its advanced glass techniques, the company has diversified its production to create crystal craftware, custom-made goods and a wide variety of crystal products, including bottles for luxury liquor and perfumes.

Based on the concept of “monozukuri-no-kokoro” or passion for manufacturing excellence, endorsed by Kozo Kagami, we intend to continue our relentless efforts to enhance our technologies and skills, and commit ourselves to offering products that express high standards of technique as well as a creativity.
